Southwest
Neighborhood Assembly (SWNA)
SWNA
is a private, non-profit citizens organization formed
in the 1960s. Its officers and Board of Directors are
chosen in privately sponsored elections each March.
In addition to officers chosen At-Large, representatives
are chosen from each of the four quadrants of Southwest,
as divided by M Street, 4th Street, and Delaware Avenue.
It conducts monthly community meetings to discuss issues
of concern and present programs.
Task
Forces and committees work to further the mission of
the SWNA, which is to conduct "charitable and educational"
activities to include "...preventing and lessening of
neighborhood tensions in the Southwest Community, the
elimination of prejudice and discrimination in said
community, and the combating of community deterioration
and juvenile delinquency."
